About the workplace

The research group for Lung Bioengineering and Regeneration conducts research in lung bioengineering and regeneration and conducts cutting edge research in the field. The group is led by senior lecturer Darcy Wagner and consists of both research and technical staff. The group is located at the Biomedical Center in Lund. Here you can read more about our exciting research: More about the group

Within the research group, we safeguard a good work environment with respect and consideration in our relationships with each other. We value a workplace that is perceived as equitable, developing and stimulating for all employees. We constantly work to create conditions for job satisfaction, development and inclusive participation for all of our diverse members.

We are looking for a driven research engineer to work with advanced 3D models of tissue to understand regenerative processes through molecular analysis.

We offer

The lung bioengineering group is a member of multiple research environments of excellence at Lund University including the Wallenberg Center for Molecular Medicine, the Lund Stem Cell Center, and NanoLund and is associated with several new research profiles areas which support our research and provide unique opportunities for collaboration. The candidate will have access to state-of-the-art equipment to support the development of the project and the candidate's own development as a researcher.  Assignmenst and responibillities

The holder of this position will mainly work on a research project related to the implementation of molecular analysis pipelines to analyze 3D models. Our group has generated a number of unique 3D models from various tissues using a combination of ex vivo and in vivo methods.

The main work responsibilities involve designing and conducting research pertaining to the project and includes analysing and developing ways to visualize the results of these analysis for publication. Further, the holder of this position will be responsible for contributing to the writing of high quality, academic papers to be submitted to international journals and contributing to grant writing for the group. The majority of this work should be done independently and in collaboration with both internal and external members of the team. The position also entails some laboratory mentoring of doctoral, masters, bachelor and medical students.

Qualification

Necessary Qualifications:

  • University degree (or equivalent) in cell and molecular biology, bioengineering, or biotechnology
  • Ability to carry out independent and high-quality research as documented through a research portfolio and peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience with both hands-on development and usage of 3D models for studying regeneration as well as development of techniques for analysing them (e.g. lightsheet microscopy or isolation of RNA from hybrid models with polymers and tissue/cells)
  • Experience with 3D models of injury in precision tissue slices (e.g. radiation)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in English
  • Experience in mentoring and/or supervision

In addition to the above qualifications, the desired qualifications are as follows:

  • Background in biology or medicine
  • Experience with standard cell and molecular biology techniques
  • Experience with in vivo animal models for disease (e.g. radiation)
  • Experience with spheroid/organoid culture
  •  Experience with state-of-the-art ex vivo imaging techniques for 3D tissue, including light sheet fluorescence microscopy
  • Experience with live cell and tissue imaging using high content imaging, including image analysis

The research project is interdisciplinary, therefore candidates with a broad competence profile spanning theses different areas are of special interest.
