Description of the workplace

The position is in collaboration with senior lecturer Elizabeth Bjarnason in the software engineering research group, SERG at the department of Computer Science at Lund University. SERG has a strong focus on empirical research in close collaboration with the software industry. Areas of research include software startups, requirements engineering, software testing, continuous delivery and experimentation, cognitive aspects of software engineering, and software processes.

The department and the research group have strong connections to the Swedish research programmes WASP (Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program) and ELLIIT, and have a broad international network within the area.

Within continuous experimentation, field experiments are used to steer the software development based on feedback from users, and decisions are commonly based on large amounts of user data. This project investigates how this approach can be used to develop systems with access to limited user data, specifically when developing new software products within startups, i.e. in new and small companies. The solutions may embrace methods that combine different types of user data (qualitative and quantitative) and re-use of existing user bases. For more information, see our webpage.

Work duties

The work tasks primarily include performing research through case studies of industrial practice, and solution design and evaluation of theses in collaboration with industrial partners. The project will explore how continuous experimentation (CE) can be applied even with limited user data and includes both exploration of current practices and the design and evaluation of new solutions in collaboration with industrial partners.

The position includes collaboration with project partners at Aalto University, Finland.

Description of the work duties:

  • Research within the topic.
  • Collaboration with industry and society.
  • Administration related to the work tasks above.
