About the research group

The applied gerontology research group is one of sixteen research groups at the Department of Health Sciences. The research is distinctly interdisciplinary and cross-border in nature and involves senior researchers as well as postdocs and doctoral students. Collaboration with parties outside academia is an important part of the research we conduct. The research group is connected to the Centre for Aging and Supportive Environments (CASE). We are hereby looking for a postdoctoral researcher in applied gerontology with a focus on experimental health science. The employment is full-time for two years according to a central agreement on limited-term employment as a postdoc. Start date is 15 January 2024 or as agreed.

Job description

Your main task as a postdoc will be research in experimental health science in an interdisciplinary environment. You are expected to develop and lead research in two ongoing user-centered projects with a focus on technology and innovative methods to study activity in different environments (e.g., welfare technology, technology-based assessment and analysis methods) for active and healthy ageing. Your work will involve employees from different research groups, which creates opportunities for cooperation and collaboration. There will also be the opportunity for you as a postdoc to participate in other research projects within the research group, at CASE or within the Department of Health Sciences. You are expected to be actively involved in the preparation of new projects as well as in applications and reports to external funders.

Teaching will be part of your duties, mainly at PhD level and involve supervision, but also at undergraduate and advanced level.

As a postdoctoral fellow, you are also expected to actively participate and collaborate in seminar and meeting activities as well as other external contexts. Other duties may also be included.

Qualifications and assessment

This is a qualifying position primarily focused on research. The appointment is intended as an initial step in the career and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their scientific merits and potential as a researcher.

You are eligible to be employed as a postdoctoral researcher if you have completed a doctoral degree or have a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree in the subject area of the position. The degree must have been completed no more than three years before the end of the application period. If there are special reasons, the doctoral degree may have been completed earlier. Special reasons means leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical service, positions of trust within trade unions or other similar circumstances.

In the case of employment as a postdoctoral researcher, the following assessment criteria applies:

  • Good ability to develop and implement high-quality research as well as pedagogical ability, within experimental health science with a focus on ageing, health and technology.

Additionally, the assessment is made based on the following requirements for employment:

  • Doctoral degree in health sciences or other relevant field
  • Swedish license as an occupational therapist, physiotherapist or nurse
  • Very good computer skills, including statistical programs such as STATA, SAS or SPSS
  • Very good knowledge of English and Swedish in speech and writing

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The duties require you to be flexible, take responsibility, and have the ability to work both independently and together with others.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Documented experience of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Documented experience of interdisciplinary research
  • Documented experience of working with people with cognitive disease or impaired cognitive function.
  • Documented experience of work with and/or research in ageing and technology

Terms

The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and is full-time. The employment is time-limited according to the agreement, "Agreement on temporary employment as a postdoctoral fellow", between the labor market parties dated 2008-09-04 (Employer Agency, OFR's, Saco-S and SEKO).
