Work

Coastal waters around the world are subject to several environmental stressors, such as eutrophication, temperature increase and deoxygenation. Recently, another stressor has received considerable scientific and societal attention - ocean acidification. Ocean acidification is caused by the increase in carbon dioxide pressure as a consequence of increased carbon emissions to the atmosphere. For coastal seas, the situation is more complex with several other factors such as increased amount of organic matter and larger runoff from land also contributing to lowering the pH. Within this project, we study the impact of different pH-lowering drivers, together with warming and deoxygenation, on the benthic environments through experiments as well as analyses of sediment records.

Work duties

  • Research within environmental science, in particular, marine micropaleontology and paleoceanography
  • Advanced image analyses of synchrotron generated µCT scans of benthic foraminifera using AI and related methods.
  • Active participation in activities related to the research project.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualifications

  • The applicant must have an MSc degree in Environmental Science, including an MSc thesis with a focus on marine micropaleontology and image analysis.
  • Successfully completed BSC courses in Earth Sciences are meritorious.
  • The applicant must have extensive, documented experience in species identification of benthic foraminifera from the Skagerrak area region.
  • The applicant must have extensive documented experience working with automated image analyses of benthic foraminifera.
  • The applicant must have very good oral and written proficiency in English.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability.
