Description of the workplace
At the research group for epigenetics and diabetes, research is conducted within/with the aim of understanding the significance of epigenetic changes in the onset of type 2 diabetes. The group is led by Professor Charlotte Ling and consists of both research and administrative staff. You can find more information about the research here. The workplace is located at the unit for epigenetics and diabetes at Lund University's diabetes center (LUDC) in Malmö, which is a world-leading research environment financed with support from the Strategic Research Foundation (SSF) and the Swedish Research Council (EXODIAB; Excellence of Diabetes Research in Sweden).

Work duties
In the role as research engineer you will work with tasks that include developing and implementing methods to study histone modifications at the single-cell level, as well as in whole tissue associated with type 2 diabetes. The research engineer will plan research, analyze histone modifications using cut-and-tag and cut-and.run, and produce libraries for sequencing. As a research engineer, you will also perform statistical and bioinformatic analysis of global epigenetic data and perform validation analysis of epigenetic results. This also includes summarizing data and writing manuscripts. Other existing tasks within the research group may also become relevant.

The work is carried out on site in Malmö.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • PhD in relevant field
  • Good knowledge in research into type 2 diabetes and epigenetics
  • Good knowledge of bioinformatics and statistics
  • Experience in analysis of cut-and-tag and cut-and.run in human islets, cultured human fat and muscle cells and knocked out genes in these
  • Good experience with protein analysis
  • Good experience with metabolic analysis in human cells
  • Statistical analysis of DNA methylation and RNA data
  • Experience of analyzing data related to type 2 diabetes and obesity is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of written and spoken English as well as experience in writing and publishing manuscripts
  • Thorough and accurate
  • Good at collaborating as well as working independently
  • Persevering

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Good knowledge of protein analysis and cut-and-tag as well as cut-and.run
  • Experience in the analysis of insulin signaling and autophagy in human cells
  • Experience in cell culture specifically of human muscle and fat cells


Terms of employment

The employment is a special fixed-term employment (SÄVA) of one year, with scope 100%. Desired start date is December 16, 2023, or as agreed.
