Description of the workplace
The Medical Molecular Biology research team at the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine currently conducts research in posttranscriptional regulations in prostate cancer progression and is at the forefront of its field. At present, the research team is focusing on the epitranscriptomic regulations of prostate cancer metastases.
The research team is led by Dr. Yvonne Ceder. The group is international and comprises research, administration and technical staff. We are now looking for a highly motivated PhD student with molecular biology training. Work duties and areas of responsibility
The project focuses on studying RNA editing as novel biomarker in prostate cancer tumour progression. The aim is to determine if RNA editing enzymes or epitranscriptomics can be used diagnostically and therapeutically. The work encompasses in vitro experimental work as well as data analyses. The student will collaborate with other researchers and clinicians and must therefore have excellent communication skills and thrive in a collaborative setting.

We are looking for someone with:

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. The assignments require that you have the ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well with others in the research group and researchers outside the subject area.

Requirements
You must have:

  • A Master’s degree in Molecular Biology or equivalent
  • Documented experience in epitranscriptomic, cancerbiology, and cell culture.
  • Very good knowledge in English

Additional qualifications meritorious for the position are

  • Hands on experience of cultivating cancer cells
  • Previous experience of research in similar projects

Research expertise is the foremost criterion for employment. The evaluation of applicants will take account of their research profile, experience and knowledge.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

Assessment basis
The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Type of employment
Temporary employment of four years, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance-
HF 5 kap 7§ in Sweden.
The employment is a full term position with the desired start date of January 1st, 2024, or according to agreement.
