Objective: Quantifying the disambiguation process of the visual system, when viewing a textured surface, in humans. This is important for the visually-created anticipation effect for a haptic interface/human user interface, i.e. essentially for creating an illusion that would elevate the experience of the artificial input generated by the haptic interface. This project is a continuation of a pilot project formed under a previous secondment from Actronika SAS (France) to the host lab (ULUND).
Expected Results: Quantitative analysis using high precision eye movement recording in humans subjects, to show how small nuances in texture changes or illumination angle can impact the eye motions in a quantifiable manner. The eye motions are in turn reflective of the visual disambiguation process.
