Description of the workplace
The position of a research assistant is placed at the Department of Chemistry, Division of Biotechnology. The Division conducts research and education at undergraduate and graduate level in various areas of biotechnology such as industrial biotechnology, environmental biotechnology, and biotechnology for health. The research includes studies of a fundamental nature as well as pure applications. The Division conducts multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with other research and industrial partners, which involve the development of biotechnology and green chemistry processes for the transformation of renewable raw materials into chemical building blocks for sustainable chemicals and plastics adapted said to circular economy.

As a research assistant, your tasks can vary and the tasks should give an insight into the academic world at the faculty where you are studying.
The employment as a research assistant concerns participation in research programme STEPS and
involves the development of chemical and enzymatic process for the synthesis and purification of biobased plastic monomers.
Work duties involve:
Laboratory work on optimization of reaction conditions for synthesis of biobased building blocks for plastics via chemical and enzymatic catalysis, product separation and purification, analysis of products, data analysis, preparation of samples for evaluation, compiling all the results in a report and making oral presentations in the research group and for collaborating partners in the projects.
Qualification requirements
Only those admitted to first or second-cycle courses and study programmes at the faculty may be employed as teaching assistants. The degree must not have been taken.

The position is a fixed term position for 20240108 - 20240707 period at 50 % of full time. The employment may not negatively affect the amanuensis' studies and may not be combined with other employments. The employment as a Teaching Assistant is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), 5 chapter 8-12 §§. The employment is covered by the Flextime Agreement for T/A personnel.
