Description of the workplace
At the research group of Nutrition Epidemiology, research is conducted on the importance of diet for health, especially regarding the importance of carbohydrate quality and sugar consumption. The group is led by associate professor Emily Sonestedt and consists of research and technical staff. You can read more about the research here and here. Work duties
As a postdoctoral fellow in the project "Significance of carbohydrate quality for cardiometabolic risk" with funding from the Swedish Research Council and the Heart and Lung Foundation, your work will consist of data processing of material from large nutritional epidemiological studies, as well as writing articles for publication in peer-reviewed international journals. Within the project, we will use different methods (including metabolomics) to gain new insights into the connection between sugar intake and risk of cardiometabolic risk. We will also use objective markers for sugar intake measured in urine. Other tasks within the research group may also be relevant, for example planning to a coming intervention study.

Eligibility
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment      
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

• Completed PhD (within the last three years) in nutrition, biostatistics or another field that the employer considers relevant
• Experience of working with nutritional epidemiological studies
• Good ability to work in a group and an ability to work independently
• Ability to take initiative and be ambitious

Meritorious for the position are:

• Good knowledge of carbohydrate quality and cardiometabolic diseases
• Experience of having worked with objective biomarkers for dietary intake
• Work with omics data, preferably metabolomics and proteomics
• Experience conducting Mendelian Randomization studies
• Experience of setting up an intervention study

Terms of employment
This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. Preliminary start date 2024-02-01 or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated November 19, 2021.
