The Department of Political Science announces a job as a project assistant. The employment is related to the Parliamentary Deliberation in Welfare State Development project, which uses a mixed-method design to examine how and why politicians engaged in political deliberation before enacting path-breaking social policy reforms. The project consists of two main components: one that theorizes and classifies large social insurance reforms in 15 rich democracies over the main part of the 20th century and one that analyzes parliamentary deliberation over a subset of large social insurance reforms in Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK.
Tasks
The project assistant will work on one or more components of the project, subject to their skill-set. Core tasks involve: preparing Excel worksheets with information such as background data on the parliamentarians who spoke in various debates; and conducting secondary research on social insurance reforms, which may involve finding and consulting academic and parliamentary sources as well as communicating with librarians and public policy experts. Additional tasks involve coding parliamentary deliberation in English, Swedish, and/or French and German (in the case of Switzerland); and collecting and cleaning large-N cross-sectional time-series data in Stata. In all these tasks, the project assistant will work in collaboration with the project investigator.
Qualifications
The job as a project assistant requires an ability to perform independent, accurate and systematic work, a curious mindset, and a willingness to work with qualitative and, possibly, quantitative data.
