Description of the workplace 

The research group is headed by Professor Åsa Petersén, and is located at the Biomedical Centre in Lund. Focus for the translational research is to identify early disease mechanisms for the neurodegenerative disorders Huntington disease, frontotemporal dementia and ALS. We are now looking for a doctoral student to work on a new project on the role of hypothalamic circuits in these diseases. We are now looking for a doctoral student with desired start date 2024-02-15 or according to agreement.

Work duties and areas of responsibilities 

As a doctoral student in our research group you will develop and manage several research projects, as well as contribute to other ongoing activities in the lab. Your main tasks will be:

• Experimental work with laboratory animals and post-mortem tissue analysis
• Development of methods
• Data analysis
• Project planning and scientific writing

The position requires work with laboratory animals.

Presentation of research results at seminars, national and international meetings is part of this position.

Qualifications 

The position requires:

• Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience.
• Documented experience in research projects on metabolism and hypothalamus in laboratory animals, including metabolic analysis, immunohistochemistry, RNAscope, data analysis and scientific presentations.

We place grate emphasis on personal qualities as the ability to work independently. 

Desired qualifications:

• Documented experience in scientific writing, including authorship of scientific publications on metabolism and hypothalamus.
• Documented experience in handling laboratory animals.

The position is a fixed term position for four (4) years, according to HF 5 . 7§. Desired start date is February 15th 2024 or according to agreement.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
