Description of the workplace

 The research group Translational Neurogenetics at the Department of Experimental Medical Science, Faculty of Medicine, is conducting research within genetic and environmental risk factors for Parkinson’s disease and is at the forefront of its field. The research group is now looking for an experienced postdoctoral researcher to work on a funded project focusing on the interaction between genetics, metabolism and susceptibility to Parkinson’s disease. The research group is led by Associate Professor Maria Swanberg and includes technical staff, postdoctoral researcher, doctoral- and undergraduate students. We are looking for a driven and experienced researcher within the field of neurodegenerative disease and/or metabolic disease. As a team member of the Translational Neurogenetics Unit, you are part of a collaborative research environment, including national and international consortia with world-leading expertise in neurodegenerative disease and genetics of Parkinson’s disease (see more at Here and Here).

Work duties and areas of responsibility

As a postdoctoral researcher in the Translational Neurogenetics Unit, you will have responsibility to plan, conduct and evaluate research projects in collaboration with other team members and collaborators. The work also includes attendance to scientific meetings, applications for research grants and interaction with stakeholders. Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

- A PhD degree in a relevant research area, not more than 3 years prior to the application deadline

- Experience from research in neurodegenerative and/or metabolic disorders

- A publication record of original research papers in peer-reviewed international scientific journals

- Excellent communication skills in English

- Personal qualities such as engagement, independence and ability to collaborate

Additional qualifications for the position are:

- Experience with in vivo models for Parkinson’s disease

- Experience with functional assays of mitochondrial respiration

- Experience with bioinformatics in the genomic and metabolomic field

About the employment

The employment is a fixed-term employment of two years, 100% with a start date of 1 of March 2024 or as agreed. As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to move to Sweden as the work will be carried out on site.

The employment is time-limited to a minimum of two years, a maximum of three years according to the collective agreement on limited-time employment as a postdoctoral fellow (according to Collective Agreement). An appointment as a postdoctoral fellow is intended as an initial step in the career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden research competence.
