Description of the workplace

The position is placed at the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with around 100 employees where extensive research is carried out centered on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research Centre on nanoscience and nanotechnology. The division includes Lund Nano Lab, a central and shared facility for the production of materials and components at the nanoscale. The Division has a strong commitment to undergraduate education, not least in the Master's programme "Engineering Nanoscience" at LTH.

We offer

Lund University is a public authority which means that employees get particular benefits, generous annual leave and an advantageous occupational pension scheme. Read more on the University website about being a Lund University employee Work at Lund University

Work duties

The work duties will be to perform research within the field of Biophysics, with the focus of the investigation of the interactions between living cells and nanostructures in the context of cell transfections.

Project: Nanostructured substrates, such as substrates with nanotubes and nanopore can be used to transfect cells using a process called nanoelectroporation. The process requires a good seal between the cell membrane and the nanostructures, which dependent on the ability of the cells to attach to the substrate. In this project, various nanostructured subtrates will be fabricated at the Lund Nano Lab. Cell attachment and motility on the various substrates will be investigated using phase holographic microscopy and correlated with the transfection efficiency, assessed using flow cytometry.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • bachelor, master or equivalent level in the field of Nanotechnology
  • very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
  •  good collaborative skills
  • independence

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • knowledge about the specific topic of the project
  • experience of cell culture and cell transfection
  • experience of clean room nanofabrication, flow cytometry and phase holographic microscopy

Further information

The position is a fixed term position for 6 months at 100 percent of full time, and starting 1st of March 2024.

How to apply

Applications are to be submitted via the University’s recruitment system.
