Work duties

  • Conducting fungi sampling and screening.
  • Maintaining fungal and bacterial cultures, preparing agar plates and liquid culture media.
  • Developing and optimizing a high-pH culture medium.
  • Developing methods to characterise fungal growth and CaCO3 precipitation.
  • Fabrication of simple microfluidic devices and inoculating them with bacteria/fungi.
  • Conducting tests with fluorogenic substrates.
  • Work in tight collaboration with biologists and engineers that perform microscopic experiments in the newly developed microfluidic chips.
  • Actively contribute to a positive and creative working atmosphere in the group.


Qualifications

  • MSc certificate in microbiology or similar, with specialization in environmental microbiology or other relevant fields.
  • Experience in using microfluidic chips.
  • Experience in biological and environmental applications.
  • Experience with molecular characterization of microbial communities.
  • Experience with work on environmental or soil samples both in the field and laboratory experiments.
  • Experience working with fluorescence microscope and related image analyses.
  • Very good proficiency in written and communicated English.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well with other members of the research team.

Terms of employment

  • Permanent employment with preferred start in February 2024. A probationary period of 6 months might be applicable
