Description of the workplace
The research group is dedicated to translational research on prostate cancer to improve the outcomes for our patients. The research includes identification of molecular targets for development of new therapies in chemo- and hormone resistant prostate cancer, in vitro studies and animal models, and clinical studies on imaging biomarkers for prognosis, prediction and monitoring and clinical studies on robotic surgery. The group is further focused on the development and validation of biomarkers in tissue, blood and urine including circulating tumor cells and cell-free DNA and we are looking to expand our group with additional expertise in bioinformatics and computational biology. The successful applicant will be an integral part of developing the next generation of precision medicine tools for prostate cancer. The position will be based in Lund. Work duties and areas or responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and executing research projects to develop tissue and liquid biopsy biomarkers for prostate cancer precision medicine. This can include computational methods development in the areas of gene expression profiling, DNA-sequencing, circulating tumor cell analysis and cell-free DNA analysis. The candidate is expected to work independently and to present completed work both at conferences and as scientific publications.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • A PhD (within the last three years) in bioinformatics/computer science, or in medicine/biology with considerable bioinformatics experience
  • Knowledge in relevant programming languages such as R or Python
  • Experience in the analysis of omics and high dimensional data including gene expression profiling, DNA sequencing, etc.
  • Experience in machine learning methods and biomarker classifier development using “omics” or other high dimensional data
  • Good oral and written communication in English
  • Good communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Good collaboration skills, ability to work independently, and be solution-focused

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Experience in high-performance computing using a compute cluster
  • Experience in biostatistics including survival analysis and clinical trial design

Eligibility
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a post doctor the following will primarily be taken into account:

  • Ability to develop and carry out scientific research of good quality
  • Pedagogic capability

Terms of employment
This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. Preliminary start date 2024-06-01 or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated February 1, 2022
