Description of the workplace

The Department of History is a large department encompassing three subjects: History, Human Rights and East and South-East Asian Studies. The Department also has a large doctoral education programme, including a National Graduate School in Historical Studies. The research in history broadly focuses on cultural history. In terms of chronology, the research extends from the early Middle Ages to the present day with an inclination towards the early modern period and the 1900s. Work duties and areas of responsibility

We are searching for a project assistant to join the Swedish Research Council-funded project Moved Apart: Communicated Experiences of Separation in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries. The project explores how experiences of separation are shaped by life stages, by time and space, and by letters.

You will join a team compiling a database of early modern letters in Europe and East Asia. In addition, you will have the opportunity take part in scientific conferences and discussions, and to develop your organisational skills. The project is based at Lund University, and entails international collaboration, database input, research data summaries and analysis. In addition, your tasks include administration, bookings and coordination. For this reason, we are looking for a colleague that is both punctilious and flexible. You will be invited to take part in all relevant seminars, and be fully integrated into the daily workings of the department. The working language of the project is English, so an excellent spoken and written English is a prerequisite. The working language of the department is Swedish, so an excellent spoken and written Swedish is a prerequisite.

Qualifications

Requirements for employment are:

  • At least a BA degree in history
  • Interest in premodern and global history.
  • Excellent spoken and written English is a prerequisite.
  • Excellent spoken and written Swedish is a prerequisite.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Documented experience of IT and/or digital humanities.
  • Documented experience of social media and website management.
  • Documented knowledge of premodern history.
  • Documented ability of premodern paleography.
  • Documented organisational skills and experience.

 

Further information

The appointment is indefinite position but limited to six years and refers to 20% employment.
