Description of the workplace
At the research group for Experimental Dementia Research, research is conducted within dementia, in particular Alzheimer’s disease. Our research has focused on the early cell and synapse biology and pathology of Alzheimer’s disease with the aim of contributing to improved therapy for the disease. The group is led by Professor Gunnar K. Gouras and consists of both researchers (1 PI, 1 PhD student, 1 postdoc and currently 1 master’s student) and 1 technical staff person. As doctoral student within the research group, you are responsible for conducting experiments that lead to the successful attainment of the requirements for your PhD. Your duties include mainly reading, planning, performing and analysing experiments, and staying up-to-date with the literature. Other existing tasks within the research group that have to do with the day-to-day functioning of a lab.
Attending lab meetings of the group, preparing for journal clubs and also conferences is part of your duties, including the presentation of your work.

Employment is for an term with a scope of 100 percent of full time starting in February 2024 or by agreement. The duration of PhD work at EMV typically last 4 years and no longer than 4.5 years.

Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad. The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.
