The doctoral programme

Educational sciences, with a focus on mathematics didactics, is a scientific field that seeks to understand and contribute to knowledge development of mathematics teaching and learning, in this call limited to junior high school, high school, or university level in a Swedish context. The doctoral position focuses on classroom-based research, e.g., aspects of mathematics teachers' or prospective mathematics teachers' teaching, pupils' or students' concepts in mathematics, the learners' different prerequisites for mathematics learning, or connections between teaching and learning in mathematics.

Work assignments

Doctoral education. Departmental work, such as teaching and administrative tasks, can be assigned.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for doctoral studies in each subject are specified in the relevant general syllabus, available at https://www.ht.lu.se/en/education/doctoral-studies/general-syllabi/.

For this specific doctoral position, the following are considered to be merits:

  • teacher education in mathematics or equivalent
  • experience in teaching mathematics
  • good language skills in Swedish and English.

Assessment criteria

The selection process will primarily take into account the applicants’ ability to benefit from third cycle studies. This is assessed against the criteria quality, quantity, progression and relevance.
