Description of the workplace

The position is placed at Division of Biotechnology, Department of Chemistry. The Division conducts research and education at undergraduate and graduate level within various branches of biotechnology.  The Division runs several multidisciplinary projects in collaboration with industrial partners, involving the development of processes for transformation of renewable resources into chemical building blocks for sustainable chemicals and plastics suited for circular economy. Development of bio-based plastics is an important area where collaboration between biotechnology, organic- and polymer chemistry is crucial.

 

Work duties

As a researcher, you will have responsibility for the synthesis and characterization of polymers from biobased chemicals and monomers within the international collaboration research project.

Work duties involve:

  • Active participation in the research tasks of an international collaboration project dealing with the development of biobased monomers and polymers.
  • Synthesis of chemicals, monomers and polymers by bio- and chemical catalysis and their characterization
  • Take an active role in collaboration with other parties in the project
  • Compiling all the results in a report and making oral presentations in the research group and for collaborating partners in the project.
  • Writing scientific articles

 

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • PhD degree in the subjects of polymer science, green chemistry, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge and background in polymerization, catalysis and functionalization of chemicals and monomers.
  • Knowledge and background in spectroscopic and physico-chemical characterization of polymers.
  • Highly motivated and ability to conduct experimental tasks.
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.  

Additional requirements

  • Theoretical knowledge and practical experience on the synthesis and characterization of polycarbonate and polyesters.
  • Practical experience on product analysis with chromatography and spectroscopy.
  • Knowledge of bio-based chemicals, monomers and polymers.
  • Good skills in experiment, planning, design and organization.
  • Experience of working with industry or working in a company

Further information

The position is a fixed term position for period from 2024-04-16 to 2024-11-15 at 100 per cent of full time, or by agreement.
