The work place is the division of Mathematical physics, Physics department. Information about the division can be found at the division webpage, https://www.matfys.lu.se/
The summer work positions are financed by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg foundation through EDU-WACQT, an initiative for strengthening Swedish undergraduate education in Quantum Technology.
The work duties will be to perform research within the field of quantum technology, with the focus of the work determined by the specific project topic.
Plateau phenomena and the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox Contact person: Armin Tavakoli
Quantum steering is the modern way of formulating the ‘spooky action at a distance’ argument behind the famous Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox. Thus, steering concerns the types of quantum states that can be remotely prepared by measurements on half of an entangled state. Recently, models have been proposed where the detector that reads out the steering is subject to noise and errors. It has been discovered that cleverly constructed steering criteria can exhibit an ‘imprecision plateau’, meaning that up to a critical amount of imperfection in the detector, none of its detection power is lost.
The purpose of the project is to explore this counter-intuitive phenomenon. Specifically, to investigate, understand and predict these types of plateau tests for quantum steering. Central questions are to find systematic criteria for imprecision plateaus, explore their trade-off with noise and explore their application to quantum random number generation. A successful result would provide us with various plateau criteria for quantum steering, explain why they can/cannot exist for other types of quantum correlations and inform on how their applications.
