What is SI?

SI-PASS (Supplemental Instruction – Peer Assisted Study Sessions) is a very successful educational model developed in the United States during the 1970s and has spread to many universities across the world, including Lund University.

We offer

As an SI-leader at The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology, you are employed as amanuens by one of the faculties’ departments and you will receive your SI-leadership training from the European Centre for SI-PASS. Through your SI-leadership you will get insights into the academic world and aside from deepened subject knowledge and leadership experience, you will also have opportunities to make professional contacts within the departments and faculties. As an SI-leader you are also a part of a worldwide network that includes SI programmes and SI-leaders in several countries, and you may be offered to participate in international conferences and events. Experience shows that SI-leaders are very competitive on the labour market.

Work duties

You will work in close collaboration with the teachers, the SI-supervisors at the department, as well as other SI-leaders within and outside of the same subject. You will also be invited to regular SI supervision meetings led by the responsible SI-supervisor.

As an SI-leader you will regularly arrange SI sessions where you lead student groups in the relevant subject. By collectively discussing concepts and questions from the course material, students can collaboratively find answers and solutions. The SI-leader acts as a support and a sounding board in this process.

The duties of this position include:

  • Planning, scheduling and leading SI sessions in the relevant subject. Depending on the scope of the position, this is either conducted once a week (10%) or once every two weeks (5%).
  • Registering and reporting attendance and writing a reflective report after each SI session
  • Regularly participating in obligatory SI-supervision meetings
  • 1–2 times per semester giving feedback to other SI-leader colleagues after observing their SI sessions
  • Other duties may also occur

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • You are enrolled as a student at Lund University
  • You have as a student participated in SI (if SI has been offered in the classes you have taken)
  • You have passed the courses for which you will be SI-leader (TKAN25, TKAN19, TKAN20, HATKA) or equivalent
  • You are keeping up successfully in your own studies
  • You are responsible, communicative, and cooperative
  • You have good knowledge in the language the course is given in

Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability.

  • You have very good results in the courses for which you will be SI-leader
  • You have leadership experience
  • You can work independently
  • You have shown dedication in your studies
  • You have shown dedication in your previous SI participation
  • You have an interest in pedagogy, group dynamics and leadership.

Further information

This is a fixed-term employment that is limited to the period 2024-08-26 – 2024-12-20 and is 10 % of a full time equivalent. The employment must not unfavorably affect the studies of the amanuens. Regulations regarding educational employment such as amanuens can be found in the Higher Education Ordinance HF, Chapter 5, Sections 8-12.
