Description of the workplace

The Division of Chemical Physics is an intellectually stimulating international environment with research groups spanning ultrafast spectroscopy, photocatalysis, inorganic chemistry, materials science, and nanotechnology. A recently established Nanochemistry and Spectroscopy research group (BUL Dmitry Baranov) is looking for an assistant for summer period to help advance studies of nanocrystal self-assembly and collective properties.

With an appointment as an assistant, you as a student can combine studies with work and supplement your theoretical knowledge with work experience in the research setting.

Work tasks

The work tasks for assistant include participation in research in the area of colloidal crystallization and it’s investigation by scattering methods. The main goal of this position is to assist with processing and analysis of the x-ray scattering data acquired in a recent experiment at Max IV.

The work tasks for this position include:

  • Participation in research
  • Data analysis using programming tools like Python
  • Presentation of results
  • Filling out time reports with a summary of activities

Eligibility

Eligible for employment as an assistant is one who is admitted to undergraduate or advanced level education at the faculty (or a closely related subject for the joint institutions). The degree must not have been awarded.

Qualifications

Requirements for this position are:

  • holds a Bachelor's degree in physics, materials science, or a related field, or equivalent education deemed relevant by the employer.
  • Very good knowledge of spoken and written Swedish and English
  • Practical knowledge of Jupyter Notebook and Python programming environments
  • Prior experience with analysis of x-ray diffraction scattering data
  • Independence, ability to cooperate, and work in the team

Qualifications beneficial for this position are:

  • Prior experience in visual presentation of data
  • Ability to write academic texts

Other

The employment is temporary for the period of 9-11 weeks at 50% of full-time.

Regulations regarding educational employment as an assistant are found in the Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 2017:284), Chapters 5, Sections 8-12. The employment is covered by the flexitime agreement. The start date for the position is 240603.
