Description of the workplace
The research group, led by prof. Anna Blom, focuses on innate immunity, especially the complement system, in health and disease. The group consist of research and technical personnel. The workplace is located at the Wallenberg Laboratory in Malmö.

Duties and responsibilities
The project will be carried out in the research group led by prof. Anna Blom. The tasks mainly consist of conducting research into the impact that the complement system and its inhibitors have on cancer development. Responsibility for flow cytometry equipment including training of new users is also included, as well as support for the entire group with bioinformatic analyzes of gene expression data. Supervision of students may also occur, as well as presentation of results at conferences. Other tasks within the research group may also be relevant. 

Qualifications
The employment requires:

  • PhD in life sciences or an equivalent subject. A person who holds a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a Swedish doctorate is eligible to be employed. 
  • Scientific competence and laboratory experience in the field of cancer proven by publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Very good written and verbal skills in English. 
  • Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The applicant should be motivated and expected to develop a high degree of independence and contribute creatively to the project. The duties require the ability to collaborate, work independently, and the experiences and skills deemed relevant to successfully complete the project. We assume that you have good communication skills and an interest in collaborating with all team members.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Very good knowledge of as many of the following methods as possible: cell culture of primary cells and cell lines, flow cytometry including cell sorting, cancer-specific cell assays (e.g. migration, invasion, apoptosis, resistance to chemotherapy), molecular biological techniques (DNA and RNA purification, quantitative RT-PCR), protein analyzes (western blotting, immunoprecipitation), microscopy (fluorescence, confocal). 
  • Very good knowledge of advanced bioinformatic analyzes of mRNA expression as well as statistical analyzes of experimental data. 
  • Experience with cancer animal models (mice). 
  • Very good knowledge of relevant computer programs such as FlowJo, Prism, Affinity (or equivalent) and previous use of electronic lab books.
  • Previous postdoc experience. 

Other 
The employment is a fixed-term employment (SÄVA) under a six months period with preliminary start date 2024-11-01.
