The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts is one of eight faculties within Lund University and includes Malmö Art Academy, Malmö Academy of Music and Malmö Theatre Academy, also Inter Arts Center and Choral Centre South. The Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts offers Bachelor and Master programs in visual art, music and drama, and various courses of different extent. The Faculty also runs third cycle (postgraduate) studies in artistic research and music education.

Description of the workplace

We are currently searching for a university lecturer for the Master's programme in Performing Arts as Critical Practice. We are looking for someone with pedagogical skills and documented artistic experience in contemporary performance. The employment has a scope of 50% and is a temporary position for the 2024-25 academic year: 15 August 2024 to 20 June 2025.

The Master's in Performing Arts as Critical Practice is an international, English-language programme open to artists within theatre, performance and dance, who want to situate their performing arts practice within the social and political conditions of the contemporary world.

Through the focus on process, individual and collective practical work, theory, and reflection seminars, writing and peer-to-peer exchange, participants are encouraged to work towards developing sustainable art practices. You can read more about the master's programme here.

Your duties will consist of tutoring and teaching, as well as creating and maintaining the programme’s structure and its daily implementation in close collaboration with the head of the programme. The teaching focuses on artistic and co-creative processes, facilitation and documentation of artistic and co-creative processes. As the students have different experiences, knowledge and interests, much of the work is about following and supporting the students' individual development. while facilitating safe and functioning group processes. We work actively to create a group environment where differences are recognized and made visible, and where we learn from each other's experiences. Teaching includes group seminars, individual tutoring and tutoring of peer-to-peer sessions. The job also includes administrative tasks such as scheduling, class meetings and planning of guests in close collaboration with the head of the programme and the other teachers.

Job duties

As a university lecturer in performing arts and society, you help to develop the international Master's program in Performing Arts as Critical Practice at the Malmö Theater Academy.

The employment includes:

  • tutoring and teaching master's students
  • developing, planning, scheduling and administering the curriculum and study trajectory of the master's programme
  • actively following and contributing to the master's students' artistic development
  • attending to the students' artistic processes and works
  • actively following developments in the Master’s subject area.

Qualifications

To be eligible to be employed for the position of the university lecturer you need to

  • demonstrate relevant artistic and pedagogical skills
  • have completed a degree at advanced level or acquired equivalent experience in another way.
  • have other skills that are important with regard to the employment's subject focus and the duties included in the employment.

Requirements for employment are:

  • Experience in teaching and supervision
  • Good knowledge of and a network in contemporary international performing arts.
  • Experience of making work at a high artistic level.
  • Good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Close affinity and practical experience with the subject of the programme.

In this position, an ability to engage and inspire students to their own learning is required. Furthermore, good cooperation skills are required.

For the employment, higher education pedagogical training of at least five weeks is required or that the applicant has acquired equivalent knowledge in another way. If there are special reasons, employment can still take place. The applicant must then undergo a higher education pedagogic education during the first two years of employment, so that the requirement for higher education pedagogic education is met.

Meritorious qualifications for the position are:

  • Experience of teaching at university level
  • Knowledge of intersectional theory and or intersectional artistic practices
  • Administrative knowledge in systems such as Teams and Canvas.
  • Willingness and experience of working in collaboration.

Basis of assessment:

  For employment as a university lecturer, the following assessment criteria apply:

  • Good subject knowledge of relevance to the content of the employment and the duties involved.
  • Pedagogical ability, the ability to conduct and develop teaching and other educational activities within the subject of the MA
  • High level artistic experience and other professional experience relevant to the position.

When assessing applicants, special importance must be attached to artistic and pedagogical skill, in equal measure. The evaluation of the pedagogical skill is based on demonstrated ability to implement and evaluate courses and training, whereby experience in the subject area in question is particularly meritorious.
