Description of the workplace
At the Division of Clinical Genetics, Associate Professor Karolin Hansén Nord heads a research group that investigates complex genetic changes in cancer. Such changes often occur in difficult-to-treat cancers, but the underlying mechanisms and their significance for tumor development are still largely unknown. Dr. Hansén Nord's research group studies this phenomenon in primary skeletal tumors with the aim of finding new ways for cancer treatment. Here you can read more about the ongoing research.

Work duties 
In this role as a postdoc, you'll take charge of bioinformatics analyses, utilizing state-of-the-art methods to examine data obtained from massively parallel sequencing of primary tumor tissue and cell models. Your contributions will be pivotal in uncovering acquired genetic alterations crucial to understanding tumor development.

In addition to your bioinformatic responsibilities, you'll play an integral part in knowledge dissemination. This includes publishing articles in esteemed scientific journals and presenting findings at conferences, enriching the scientific community's understanding of bone tumor biology.

Occasional travel may be necessary for conference attendance and collaborations. Your commitment to meticulous research and collaborative spirit will drive the progress of this project.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position, the applicant must have a PhD or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within a subject relevant for the position (i.e. life sciences, preferably with a focus on the topic of the project), completed no more than three years before the date of employment decision. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

Requirements for employment are:

• Doctoral degree (PhD) in biomedicine, medical biology, bioinformatics, or a related field
• Documented experience in analyzing global genome and transcriptome sequencing data from sarcoma
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and R
• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases
• Experience in developing bioinformatics tools
• Strong communication skills
• Fluency in both spoken and written English. 

Additional qualifications for the position are:

• Prior publication record in relevant scientific journals
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Further information
The employment is a full-time position limited to 3 years. The employment is time-limited according to the agreement, "Agreement on limited-time employment as postdoctoral researcher-2022-02-01". Start date is June 1st, 2024, or according to agreement.
