Description of the workplace

The work place is located at the Centre for East and South-East Asian Studies, a division within the History Department. The Centre is located in its own building that houses some lecture rooms as well as the Asia library. The Centre currently has a staff of 13, including 5 PhD students, working on contemporary East and South-East Asia; a new lecturer and two PhD students will start in the fall. In addition we have two administrative staff, and currently one visiting Marie Curie fellow.

The staff is diverse in terms of gender and international with colleagues from many different countries; and the working language is mostly English. It is an active environment with many visitors and public lectures.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

You will devote your time to research and some administrations following the regulations at Lund University, including data management plans and ethics review etc.

 

The work includes research and related tasks such as:

  • participation in and organisation of workshops
  • transfer of knowledge through workshops and research visits
  • planning of scientific publications, communication through podcasts and other means, and dissemination at policy events etc.

  

Qualifications

You have a PhD in human rights with a focus on South-East Asia.

 

Requirements for employment are:

  • You have a PhD in human rights.
  • You have knowledge of human rights issues and academic freedom
  • You have extensive experience of conducting fieldwork in Thailand, including knowledge of Thai higher education institutions
  • Fluent in Thai and English
  • Experience in studying social movements in a Southeast Asian context

 

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Ability to work independently and in an ethically responsible way
  • Educational experience in Human rights and Asian studies at university level
  • Previous experience of work, administration and communication in LU administrative systems such as Canvas, Lucris, Ladok, Drupal etc.
  • Knowledge of research in ethics issues

 

Further information

The employment is for a fixed term for fourteen months with a scope of 50 per cent of full time starting on 1 July 2024.
