Description of the position
The post-doctoral fellow will examine how European, and national regulations can be applied to improve water availability and water quality in Sweden. This includes mapping the existing rules for water management in Sweden as well as at EU level. In particular, the post-doctoral fellow will investigate the incorporation of the EU Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC (WFD) into Swedish law and the subsequent legal acts related to water management. The post-doctoral fellow will analyse legal possibilities to prioritise and allocate water resources at national level in a more sustainable and equitable way, taking into account the challenges posed by how climate change may affect water availability in the future. This could include investigating the possibilities under existing legislation to create a market for buying and selling water permits, using dynamic permits for water use or reusing treated wastewater.
The 2030 Agenda is the framework for sustainable development that the world’s nations have signed to end extreme poverty, reduce inequalities, solve the climate crisis, promote peace and equity and much more. To achieve the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals, research has several important roles: to identify challenges and conflicting objectives, contribute to new solutions, generate dialogue and learning between different societal stakeholders and critically analyse the goals. Lund University aspires to be a part of the solution and has therefore initiated a research programme on sustainable development with postdoc fellowships in interdisciplinary projects. The projects will not only constitute platforms for the postdocs’ career development, but also form a basis for national and European applications, and for future environments for excellence and profiling. The position is a part of the Lund University-wide Interdisciplinary program focusing on Agenda 2030 and sustainable development. Within LU4Water, six postdoctoral fellowships at six faculties (Law, Social Science, Humanities, Science, Economics and Engineering) will collaborate on developing a new framework for implementing Integrated Water Resources Management. The postdoctoral fellow will therefore be involved in a larger ongoing trans-disciplinary research project on how a more complete water management framework can be developed in Sweden to allow for a comprehensive and sustainable water policy to be developed. The post-doctoral fellow at the Law Faculty will focus on the legal part of the trans-disciplinary water management project.
Duties
Mainly research but work duties include teaching for up to a maximum of 20 percent of working hours.
The researchers and teachers at the Faculty are expected to contribute to a dynamic research environment as well as to other Faculty activities, and to perform work primarily in the workplace provided by the Faculty.
Teaching staff employed as a post-doctoral fellow are offered the opportunity to undertake further training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least three weeks within the scope of their employment.
Qualifications
A person shall be qualified for appointment as a postdoctoral fellow who has been awarded a doctor’s degree in legal science or a degree deemed equivalent to a doctor’s degree in legal science. Certificate that the qualifications requirements are fulfilled must have been received at the latest, three days after the application deadline. The applicant who has completed the doctoral degree no more than three years before the application deadline is primarily eligible. If special grounds exist, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.
Special grounds include leave of absence due to illness, parental leave, positions as elected representative in trade union organisations, mandatory service in connection with total defence preparations, or comparable circumstances, and practical training or other services/tasks of relevance for the advertised position.
For a post-doctoral fellow at Lund University, the general qualification requirements concern being suitable for and having the ability in general that is needed to satisfactorily carry out the duties of the appointment in question.
Assessment criteria
The assessment criteria for the current post are a good ability to develop and carry out high-quality research teaching skills. The primary focus of the assessment shall be on research expertise.
Emphasis will be paid to the submitted plan of the research project. In the plan of the research, there must be a clear link to how the postdoctoral project relates to the LU4Water research project and its legal components.
