The Department is looking for a project assistant on the FORMAS project “fair gold? Institutionalising labour and environmental standards along the certified gold supply chain”, who specializes in international development at the interface of research, outreach and policy, at the intersection of social policy and health, ideally in relation to artisanal small-scale mining, in Africa and/or Latin America.

Assignments

This position is for a research assistant to assist with social science data cleaning, with stakeholder workshop organisation, with carrying out a review of best research dissemination and outreach practices, and with drafting a dissemination and outreach product for the project. The assistant to be hired is expected to contribute to the project through supporting research on the above-mentioned project, and will be guided by the project leader. Previous experience working, independently and in teams, on social and health policy topics ideally in relation to artisanal small-scale mining, including with national organisations, like professional associations, and international organisations, and on their interface with society, especially the Sahel region, in Africa and/or Latin America, is highly regarded.

Qualifications and assessment

To be appointed as a researcher requires Masters’ level education in international development and management, or another field of relevance to the position

The applicants must be able to demonstrate:

  • research expertise through the quality of their education assignments and/or other publications, and methodological qualifications and experience with qualitative research methods and training
  • experience in research dissemination and outreach, especially on social and health policy topics ideally in relation to artisanal small-scale mining, including with national organisations, like professional associations, and international organisations, and their interface with society, in Africa, especially the Sahel region, and/or Latin America
  • experience working in teams, especially in stakeholder workshop organisation, and work independence
  • fluent English (written and spoken) is a requirement.
