Transport and Roads offer a unique and open environment for advanced research on traffic safety and behaviour. The group counts six senior researchers (postdocs and senior lecturers) and three PhD students. On the availability of the group, there is a traffic simulation lab with an advanced driving simulator. The group has several active projects in the field of traffic safety, European and national. The PhD position is open in conjunction with the ERC StG SUperSAFE project.
As a PhD student, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects that directly influence traffic safety policies and practices across Europe. In the SUperSAFE project you will work closely with senior researchers and gain invaluable experience in both independent and collaborative research. This position offers exciting opportunities for travel and collaboration both within Sweden and internationally.
The project SUperSAFE is dedicated to exploring the profound impacts of digital and physical infrastructure on the interactions between Connected Autonomous Vehicles and conventional road users. The project aims to build a realistic simulation environment to study how the infrastructure affects the interaction of different road users and model it in a mathematical way to predict severe events.
The main duties of doctoral students are to devote themselves to their research studies which includes participating in research projects and third cycle courses. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).

Selection for third-cycle studies is based on the student’s potential to profit from such studies. The assessment of potential is made primarily on the basis of academic results from the first and second cycle. Special attention is paid to the following:

Only those admitted to third cycle studies may be appointed to a doctoral studentship. Third cycle studies at LTH consist of full-time studies for 4 years. A doctoral studentship is a fixed-term employment of a maximum of 5 years (including 20% departmental duties). Doctoral studentships are regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance (1993:100), chapter 5, 1-7 §§.
