Description of the workplace

The current position will be placed at the Division of Water Resources Engineering, Department of Building and Environmental Technology. Here, research and teaching pursue the understanding of how water resides and is transported in nature and urban systems. This includes but is not limited to, comprehension and modeling of the components of the hydrological cycle as well as geospatial modeling of water quality and quantity in agricultural systems. At the division, there are about 30 employees and, around 20 PhD students. The current position is within the Hydrology Group. The position involves creative and varied work, and the researcher will join a dynamic and multifaceted research group.

Work duties

You will work with experimental hydrology and hydraulics involving both laboratory and field measurements. The main task will be related to developing and testing of innovative automated low-cost soil moisture sensors and control systems in agriculture. The work will also include assisting the coastal engineering research group with field work and data management.

Description of the work duties:

  • to support/assist the research group, research within the subject area
  • testing soil moisture sensors in laboratory and field experiments
  • topographic and bathymetric surveys,
  • measurements of hydrodynamic parameters and sediment transport,
  • contribute to writing comprehensive project reports encompassing detailed analyses and conclusive results.
  • attending project meetings abroad
  • supervision of degree projects
  • administration related to the work duties listed above.

The work duties require that you can drive to field sites.

Qualifications

Appointment to a position as a researcher requires that the applicant has a PhD in a relevant field. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made.

Required qualifications (ex.):

  • very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • a publication track record related to experimental studies in hydrology or costal hydraulics resources.
  • documented experience of using low-cost moisture sensors or commercial devices like the WET-sensor or the Theta probe.
  • documented experience of bathymetric surveys in coastal areas
  • documented experience in collection experimental field data.
  • drivers licence

Additional requirements (ex.):

  • demonstrated ability to work efficiently both independently and as a team member
  • Experience of measurements of waves, currents, wind, and sediment transport

The position is a fixed term position for an 8-month period at 100 per cent of full time. Starting date December 1st 2024, at the latest January 2, 2025.
