Description of the workplace
Medical Radiation Physics (MRP) is part of the Department of Translational Medicine (ITM) at the Medical Faculty, Lund University. The head of the division is Prof. Lars E. Olsson. One of the subgroups of MRP is the environmental radiology and radiation protection group. The group is led by Prof. Christopher L. The environmental radiology group at MRP, Malmö has a close collaboration with the BAR group (Biospheric and Anthropogenic Radioactivity) at the Department of Physics in Lund. The work of the environmental radiology group aims to study ionizing radiation in our environment and how radiation doses to humans and biota can be measured and calculated.

Description of the project
The project is a sub-project in the larger research project (MÅSTE), funded by the Swedish Energy Agency, with a focus on sustainable energy supply using Gen IV reactors. The focus of the current sub-project is radiation protection and monitoring, and we intend to map the radiotoxicity of Gen IV nuclear fuel through modeling and dose calculations and the identification of necessary experimental studies, in combination with updating risk assessments and regulations. The work will take place in collaboration with colleagues at Uppsala University and Gothenburg University.
Duties and responsibilities
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for development of scientific and pedagogical merits. Development of research merits is prioritized, but there are also opportunities for higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.
You will primarily work theoretically, not experimentally, but you need to have a good understanding of experimental work and be able to collaborate with people who work experimentally.
The work focuses on literature studies on possible Gen IV nuclear fuel nuclide inventories with regard to the radiotoxicity of the constituent substances under different conditions (e.g. during operation or in case of accidental release). The most radiotoxic substances must be identified and compared with existing reference values in internal dosimetry linked to nuclear fuels. It is likely that some substances will not be very well/not mapped at all in the existing literature and based on this you should investigate which internal dosimetry experiments need to be done specifically for Gen IV nuclear fuels. Furthermore, you must calculate which substances are so volatile that they can be dispersed in release scenarios.
Some teaching and supervision of students may be included. If necessary, training and exercise assignments associated with the national expert support for emergency preparedness may also be included.

Terms of employment
The employment is a full-time, fixed-term position for 2 years, with the possibility of an extension for up to one year. Start date according to agreement, but no later than January 1st, 2025.
The employment is time-limited according to the agreement, "Agreement on temporary
employment as a postdoc" (Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor), between the labor parties (Arbetsgivarverket, OFR:s, Saco-S och SEKO), dated 2022-02-01.
Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, you are therefore expected to be able to carry out your work on site in Malmö. Travel, especially to Lund, and to other Swedish universities will occur.
