Description of the workplace
The Research Group for Cardiovascular Research – Hypertension conducts research in Cardiology/Endocrinology and Diabetes/Medical Genetics/General Medicine and Physiology with the aim of finding new interventions for the prevention and treatment of diabetes-related cardiovascular disease. The research group is led by professor and senior physician Olle Melander and consists of both research and administrative staff. More about the research group and its research can be found here. Work duties 
You will primarily work with statistical analysis of data from population cohorts. A large part of your working time will be devoted to supervising doctoral students. The position also involves supporting other researchers/projects within the group regarding statistical analyses, presenting and communicating results to researchers who will use them, and participating in writing manuscripts. Other tasks in the research group may also be relevant.

The work is carried out at the Clinical Research Center in Malmö.

Eligibility
Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment      
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Completed doctorate in cardiovascular disease/endocrinology or a closely related field that the employer deems adequate for the position
  • Documented experience of working with database construction and database management
  • Documented experience of complex statistical analyses and habit of working with statistical programs
  • Very good ability to communicate in English, both in writing and speaking
  • Very good ability to work independently
  • Good ability in a written language such as R
  • Proven ability to attract external funding in the form of research grants
  • Experience of supervising students/junior researchers
  • Experience of collaboration in an international environment
  • You must be good at working in a team, be willing to help others and have good communication and collaboration skills
  • You must be ambitious, driven and have strong initiative

 

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Experience of research within EXODIAB: Excellence of Diabetes Reserach in Sweden

Terms of employment
This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. Preliminary start date 2025-01-01 or according to agreement. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher”) between SACO-S, OFR/S and SEKO, dated November 19, 2021.
