Researcher in Terahertz Ellipsometry

Description of the workplace 

The position is placed at the Division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, a division with around 100 employees where extensive research is carried out centered on various aspects of nanophysics, ranging from materials science to bio- and quantum physics to various applications. The division is a central part of NanoLund, Lund University's large interdisciplinary research Centre on nanoscience and nanotechnology.

A significant part of the research at the division is in characterization of semiconductor materials. The department hosts the research group of Prof Vanya Darakchieva. Together with its co-operating partners, the group has developed in recent years THz ellipsometry and its applications in characterization of semiconductor materials and devices. The optical Hall effect is one of the advanced characterizations to access electronic transport properties. The method has been applied to two-dimensional semiconductor systems such as nitride-based high electron mobility transistors and graphene, but also to large band gap and low symmetry semiconductors such as Ga2O3. These materials and components lay the foundation for the next generation of high-frequency and high-power electronics being developed together with leading Swedish industrial partners.

Work duties 

We are now opening a position for a researcher in THz spectroscopy of wide bandgap semiconductors, to be part of our research in this field. The researcher will also be responsible for the equipment included in the Terahertz Materials Analysis Center (THeMAC), including long-term development of knowledge and methods. An important part of this is to provide support and highly specialized expertise for terahertz characterization activities in NanoLund, as well as for Lund University's part in the WBG Pilot Line.

The researcher will not carry out research projects of her/his own, and, generally, the researcher will not be given the possibility to apply for external research grants in a role as principal investigator.

The researcher position is not a career-development position and there is no possibility of a future conversion of the researcher position into a teacher’s position (such as a lecturer or senior lecturer position).

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

• You have a PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject area of the position.
• You have experience of terahertz spectroscopy and instrumentation.
• You have experience of analyzing ellipsometric data.
• You have very good oral and written proficiency in English. 
• You are independent and able to collaborate.

 Additional qualifications for the position are:

• You have extensive hands-on experience with terahertz ellipsometry, terahertz optical Hall effect and related modelling and data analysis.
