Description of the workplace
The Magnusson research team at the Department of Laboratory Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine currently conducts research in Lung Biology and is at the forefront of its field. At present, the research team is working on the development of therapies for chronic lung diseases which is a collaboration between Magnusson and Wagner Lab.
The research team is led by Mattias Magnusson and Darcy Wagner. The groups are international and comprises research, administration and technical staff. We are now looking for student with a Master's degree in molecular biology or a related field, with relevant research experience in stem cell research, gene editing, or regenerative medicine.  As a workplace, we safeguard a positive work environment with respect and consideration in our relations with one another.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
We are offering a PhD position focused on optimizing cell and gene therapy for chronic lung disease, with access to state-of-the-art facilities.
Key Project Areas:

  • CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing of basal stem cells.
  • GMP-compliant cell expansion protocols.
  • Advanced lung disease models and therapeutic development. 

Qualifications
The requirements for the position are: 

  • Master's degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, biomedicine, or a related field
  • Documented experience in stem cell research, gene editing, or regenerative medicine
  • Very good knowledge in English

Good analytical ability, drive and a good ability to collaborate

Great emphasis will be placed on personal characteristics. The assignments require that you have the ability to work independently as well as the ability to work well with others in the research group and researchers outside the subject area.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

  • Previous experience of research in similar projects
  • Good knowledge in Swedish


Eligibility
Students with basic eligibility for third-cycle studies are those who- have completed a second-cycle degree- have completed courses of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 credits are from second-cycle courses, or- have acquired largely equivalent knowledge in some other way, in Sweden or abroad.

The employment of doctoral students is regulated in the Swedish Code of Statues 1998: 80. Only those who are or have been admitted to PhD-studies may be appointed to doctoral studentships. When an appointment to a doctoral studentship is made, the ability of the student to benefit from PhD-studies shall primarily be taken into account. In addition to devoting themselves to their studies, those appointed to doctoral studentships may be required to work with educational tasks, research and administration, in accordance with specific regulations in the ordinance.

Type of employment
The employment is on full-time and limited to four years, according to HF chapter 5 § 7, with start date 2025-01-01 or according to agreement. 
As a doctoral student at Lund University, you are both admitted as a student and employed.
