The short-time position starts May 1, 2024 at the Department of Economic History (Centre for Economic Demography), Lund University School of Economics and Management. The employment is full time until October 31, 2024.

Subject area and duties

The subject area is Economic Demography.

The Centre for Economic Demography (CED) includes more than 40 scholars active in the fields of economic history, economics, social sciences, and medicine who are involved in research on economic and social issues connected to demography, from modern as well as historical perspectives. CED has a number of large-scale population databases that are used by researchers in different projects. The databases include the Swedish Interdisciplinary Panels (SIP), historical population censuses, and the Scanian Economic-Demographic Databse (SEDD). Some of the databases are physically placed at the MONA system, run by Statistics Sweden, while others are at CEDs own server.

The works tasks include managing the different databases at CED, quality control and documentation, programming in STATA and SQL to some extent. It also includes administration and support to researchers in connection with data extraction and statistical analysis. 

Eligibility 

To be employed the applicant must have at least a Master’s degree in social sciences, very good skills in data management and programming, primarily in STATA but preferably also in Python and/or SQL, and in producing written documentation. It is required that the applicant has own experience in working with similar data and participating in research. The applicant should have good knowledge of historical and contemporary population registers. 

 Assessment criteria

In the assessment of the applicant special weight will be given to skills in data management, and programming, as well as knowledge about historical and contemporary population registers. Moreover, the ability to collaborate and interact with researchers at CED will be assessed.
