The Division of Structural Mechanics, at the Department of Construction Sciences, offers a collaborative work environment and committed employees. We have a strong focus on leading research and good teaching, and we have access to equipment for advanced computer calculations and experimental investigations. You will work in a group of researchers who are motivated by understanding and solving societal challenges.
For the current position, the research is focused on wood mechanics, and particularly the structural performance of innovative timber-based products. Advanced numerical modelling using finite elements is key. We have a long research tradition of applying and developing fracture mechanics for wood and wood-based materials, and we foresee such approaches to be included in your research. Experimental work can also be part of the research, although to a minor extent and depending on the interest and background of the applicant. The position also includes teaching at the advanced level, primarily by supervision of master’s student projects.
The main duties involved in a post-doctoral position is to conduct research. Teaching may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. The position includes the opportunity for three weeks of training in higher education teaching and learning. The purpose of the position is to develop the independence as a researcher and to create the opportunity of further development.

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. The certificate proving the qualification requirement is met, must be received before the employment decision is made. Priority will be given to candidates who have graduated no more than three years before the last day for application. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier.

The position is intended as an initial step in a career, and the assessment of the applicants will primarily be based on their research qualifications and potential as researchers. Emphasis will be placed on research skills within the subject.

This is a full-time, fixed-term employment of 2 years. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement “Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor” (“Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral fellow”).
