Postdoctor in Environmental Epidemiology

Description of the workplace

The Epidemiology Research Group at the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine in Lund conducts research on how our health is affected by factors in the external environment. Our research leverages national population registers in combination with data collection in the field. A specific focus area is the health effects of tattoos, and our research is at the international forefront.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

The research assignment consists of you, independently but under the leadership of the project manager, conducting research within an ongoing project. You will primarily investigate if tattoo exposure is associated with an increased risk of foreign-body reactions (i.e., sarcoidosis) and autoimmune disease (e.g., psoriasis and thyroid disease). You will work with large amounts of register data, perform advanced statistical analysis, and author scientific articles. You will also communicate the results to the research community, concerned authorities, and the public. You are expected to contribute to the development of the research area which includes initiating new research projects and writing grant applications.

Qualifications 

Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in epidemiology or biostatistics
- Very good knowledge of statistical methods applied to biological data
- Advanced data analytics skills
- Strong experience of working in statistical software such as R, SAS, or Stata
- Experience in analyzing register data or similar large datasets
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Excellent English, written and spoken

Meritorious:
- Previous experience of research in environmental epidemiology
- Track record of first-author publications
- Ability to communicate in Swedish, written and spoken

Eligibility

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment     
 
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Terms of employment

This is a full-time employment limited to 2 years, with a possible extension for up to one additional year. The period of employment is determined in accordance with the agreement 'Avtal om tidsbegränsad anställning som postdoktor' ('Agreement on fixed-term employment as a post-doctoral researcher'), dated February 1, 2022. Starting date is February 1^st 2025 or by agreement.
