Description of the workplace
The research group of Oskar Hansson at the Faculty of Medicine, Lund University, now seek a researcher of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.

Our research is focused on defining and understanding biological processes in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. We work both with cohorts of patients and cognitively unimpaired volunteers, who undergo extensive testing with neuroimaging, biomarker measurements and neuropsychological testing, and with proteomics. The assistant researcher will join a growing multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists and clinical researchers, who are dedicated to increasing the knowledge about neurodegenerative diseases. The long-term goal of our research is to contribute to the development of new treatments for neurodegenerative diseases where effective treatments are still lacking. Work duties
The position as a researcher at the Clinical Memory Research Unit will focus on utilizing MRI to develop diagnostic and prognostic tools and enhance our understanding of the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. You will be responsible for MRI imaging within the Swedish BioFINDER studies (www.biofinder.se). Your work will focus on assessing the clinical relevance of advanced neuroimaging techniques using a multimodal approach that integrates data from various MRI sequences, PET imaging, fluid biomarkers, and neuropsychological assessments.

Your role will require close collaboration with both clinicians and MRI physicists to bridge the gap between technical advancements and their clinical applications in neurodegenerative disease research. Additional tasks within the research group may also be relevant.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

• PhD in neuroscience, psychology, medicine, bioinformatics, or a related discipline
• Associate professorship or equivalent qualification
• Extensive postdoctoral experience (> 4 years)
• Ability to independently perform large-scale MRI data analyses
• Proven experience in analyzing advanced MRI data, such as diffusion MRI, quantitative susceptibility mapping, and other quantitative metrics
• Experience supervising junior researchers, including master’s and doctoral students
• Experience optimizing MRI protocols in collaboration with MRI physicists
• Demonstrated independence (e.g., publications without a PhD supervisor)
• Experience with a broad range of neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body diseases, and frontotemporal dementia
• As a person, you need to be committed and passionate about the research and are expected to work both independently and as part of a team

Meritorious for the position are:

• Previous experience leading international collaborations
• Experience working in an international and multidisciplinary environment
• Experience designing and leading task-based fMRI studies
• Expertise in statistical modeling, scripting/programming, and a wide range of neuroimaging software

Terms of employment
This is a permanent employment with a scope of 100%. Preliminary start date 2025-01-01 or according to agreement. Probationary employment may be applied.
