Description of the workplace

The research group is active within the Division of Clinical Genetics, conducting world-leading cancer research with strong translational goals. The research primarily focuses on synthetic immunology, including strategies that rationally exploit the immune system’s ability to perform complex functions. The goal is to enhance cell-based immunotherapy for cancer, programming immune cells to seek out and eliminate malignant cells. This research involves developing new complex genetic networks in immune cells, studied through a combination of in vitro and in vivo models, which are evaluated using multiparameter flow cytometry and high-resolution sequencing techniques, among others.

The division has extensive collaboration between research groups and a wide range of expertise in various fields, offering an open working environment.

Work duties and areas of responsibility

We are seeking a motivated, skilled, and ambitious postdoc with a high level of independence who is flexible in your work role. You will work on isolating and programming primary immune cells to create new, powerful treatment strategies for hard-to-treat cancer. To evaluate the therapeutic potential of these programmed immune cells, you will employ a range of molecular and cell biology techniques. The position includes laboratory tasks such as tissue preparation and cell isolations, flow cytometry, immunological assays, cell culture, and handling of primary human and murine samples.

Requirements for the employment are:

• You should have a doctoral degree in a relevant field for the position. 
• You should be clearly independent and organized with excellent teamwork skills.
• You should have the competence to independently plan and perform experimental trials, as well as the ability to flexibly solve and handle unforeseen challenges.
• You are certified to work with laboratory animals in Sweden and have documented experience with animal technical procedures.
• You have significant experience with flow cytometry.
• You have experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR techniques, DNA/RNA extractions, ELISA).
• You have knowledge and experience working with single-cell RNA sequencing.

Additional qualifications for the position are:

• Knowledge in immunology, cell-based immunotherapy, and/or tumor biology.
• Experience isolating and working with primary immune cells (such as T cells).
• Experience in presenting scientific results in international environments.

Eligibility

Appointment to a post-doctoral position requires that the applicant has a PhD, or an international degree deemed equivalent to a PhD, within the subject of the position. This eligibility requirement needs to be met no later than the time when the employment decision is made, and evidence that this requirement is met needs to have been sent in by this time at the latest. Candidates should have completed their PhD degree no more than three (3) years before the last date for applications. Under special circumstances, the doctoral degree can have been completed earlier. These circumstances refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, clinical work, positions of trust within trade union organizations or other similar circumstances.

Basis for assessment     
 
At Lund University, employment as a postdoctoral researcher provides opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. There is mainly room for merit in research, but also for certain higher education pedagogical training. Teaching may be included in the tasks.

For the employment as a postdoctoral research, scientific ability will primarily be taken into account.

Further information

The employment is a fixed term position for two years full time, with potential extension for an additional year. Starting date is April 1^st 2025 or by agreement.
