Description of the workplace
The Division of Clinical Genetics, Department of Laboratory Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine in Lund, conducts genetic research with an emphasis on malignant tumor diseases, mainly leukemias and sarcomas. The department, which is located on floor C13 in the BMC, consist of nine research groups that, even though they have different research orientations, often collaborate with each other, e.g. in terms of research projects and work environment issue

The Research Group for Genetic and Epigenetic Studies of Pediatric Leukemia, led by Professor Bertil Johansson, is now looking for a laboratory researcher to join the ongoing research projects which involves molecular genetic and clinical characterization of pediatric acute leukemia, including writing manuscripts on the impact of genetic changes on the survival of acute lymphoblastic leukemia treated according to the ALL2008 protocol.

Work duties and areas of responsibility
You will be responsible for whole genome sequencing and RNA sequencing of pediatric acute leukemias. In addition, you will have a particular responsibility for summarizing the genetic features and their associations with therapy response in a Nordic treatment protocol for childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, including writing manuscripts on these correlations.

Qualification requirements
Requirements are:

  • PhD in a relevant medical field
  • A thorough understanding and documented practical experience of all genetic diagnostic methods used in pediatric leukemias, viz. chromosome banding analyses, FISH, RT-PCR, RT-qPCR, ddPCR, SNP arrays, RNA sequencing and whole genome sequencing

Additional qualifications:

  • Postgraduate and/or post-doc studies that have included molecular genet analyses of hematologic malignancies
  • Clinical experience of genetic diagnostics of pediatric leukemias or other hematologic malignancies

Further information
The employment is a part time position (20%) limited to 12 months starting January 1, 2025, or according to agreement.
