Description of the workplace

The researcher position will be placed at the Environmental Psychology Research Group, Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering. Environmental Psychology conducts research, teaches and collaborates with a focus on the interaction between humans and the environment from the perspective of the individual. The research group strives comprises approximately 10 researchers and PhD students with diverse disciplinary backgrounds (e.g. psychology, architecture, engineering) and offers a supportive and multidisciplinary research environment. The group has a shared interest in studying the individual in relation to interiors, urban spaces, landscapes and global environmental conditions with a particular focus on biodiversity and climate change. As a partner in Mistra Environmental Communication, the research currently examines climate anxiety, mental health, and perceived ability to cope with biodiversity loss and climate change. Work duties

The researcher position involves work in externally funded transdisciplinary research projects in environmental psychology. The position in particular focus upon psychological aspects of environmental communication on climate change and biodiversity loss. Theoretically, the research departs from the concepts of environmental perception, emotions towards global environmental change and empathy. 
The research findings have practical implications for understanding the role of the individual in achieving many of the global sustainability goals.
 
The main duties involved is to conduct research. Teaching and supervision in the first, second and third cycles of studies may also be included, but up to no more than 20% of working hours. 

The work will include:

  •  Contributing with environmental psychology perspectives on emotions, coping and empathy within the work of the transdisciplinary research team
  • Identification and integration of relevant environmental psychology theory in the transdisciplinary conceptual framework. 
  • Methodological development for field studies.
  • Data collection on-site within particpating organisations
  • Active collaboration within the transdisciplinary team and the wider research consortium.
  • Travel for data collection and project meetings.
  • Collaboration with industry and wider society.
  • Participation in Environmental Psychology research group meetings and activities.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  •  a PhD in environmental psychology, psychology and a post-doctoral education in environmental psychology or equivalent research qualification within environmental psychology
  • Documented knowledge of psychological theories on human-environment transaction
  • Documented research on human emotions towards climate change or biodiversity loss 
  • Documented experience of transdisciplinary research
  • Documented skills in multivariate statistical analyses
  • Documented ability to produce and publish high quality research output
  • Documented ability to work in a team
  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Good oral and written proficiency in Swedish to conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with stakeholders within Swedish context.

Additional requirements:     

  • Experience of literature reviews
  • Experience of applying a mixed-method approach
  • Experience of scientific methods for assessments of emotions, including climate anxiety
  • Experience of conducting intervention studies in field.

The position is a fixed-term employment for five months at 100% per cent of full time, starting 2025-02-01 or according to agreement.
