Work duties

The work focuses on the development of genomic tools to study single protist cells. Some of the planned methods include anaerobic cultivation, environmental sampling, 18S metabarcoding, metagenomics, bioinformatics and phylogenetic analysis.

Qualification requirements

  • Completed doctoral degree in biology or genomics.
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written.
  • Documented ability in nucleic acid extraction, genome or transcriptome sequencing of non-model protists
  • Documented capability of anaerobic cultivation of protists
  • Documented experience in bioinformatics with gene and protein database work, metagenomics, genome sequencing and assembly in eukaryotes
  • A good record of publication of peer-reviewed academic papers
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to organize resources, plan and develop work activities and meet deadlines effectively and consistently
  • Ability to communicate scientific results and knowledge to non-specialists and students

Assessment criteria and other qualifications

  • Documented ability and experience in working with genetic, cell biological and biochemical methods that will be used in the project
  • Documented ability and experience of wet and in silico work with non-model organisms or environmental microorganisms
  • Documented ability and experience in supervising students, individually and in groups

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development. Consideration will also be given to relevant cover letter and application form.

Terms of employment

The employment is limited to a maximum of 1 year and is full-time (100%). Desired start date February 1, 2025 or as soon as possible according to agreement.
