Description of the workplace
The research group Register-based epidemiology at the Department of translational medicine, the faculty of medicine, conducts research on obesity and related metabolic- and lifestyle factors in association with risk of disease and mortality. The research group is headed by Associate professor Tanja Stocks and currently includes another four researchers of different academic levels. The group has a strong focus on epidemiological studies based on large data sources.

The research group has launched the Obesity and Disease Development Sweden (ODDS) study, a large-scale national project. Research within this project is expected to be the primary research focus of the group in the coming years. More information about the research group and its work can be found here. Work duties and responsibilities
We are now looking for a Senior Researcher in Epidemiology/Statistics to work on the ODDS study and support the research group. The studies conducted within the group will be deeply rooted in statistical and epidemiological methods, often applying longitudinal and survival analyses. You are expected to independently perform statistical analyses and write scientific articles, provide expertise in epidemiological study design and develop appropriate statistical methods for the research group, supervise students and colleagues from undergraduate to postdoctoral level and to assist the research group leader in formulating new research questions and grant applications. You are also expected to conduct data cleaning as part of the research process, contribute to the scientific community, for example, by presenting the research group’s work, serving as an opponent or committee member at PhD defenses, and consistently representing the group and its research in a positive and professional manner.
Some teaching may be included in the role. Other tasks may also be included.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • PhD in Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field.
  • At least four years of postdoctoral experience in epidemiological research, with expertise in advanced statistical analyses, including survival analysis.
  • Strong proficiency in applying statistics using software programs, particularly Stata, which is the preferred tool within the research group.
  • Solid knowledge of epidemiological methodology.
  • Experience in supervising students and postdoctoral researchers in research projects.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Excellent collaborative skills.

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Experience working with large-scale epidemiological data.
  • Familiarity with Swedish national register data.
  • Docent title or qualifications equivalent to a docentship in Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Swedish.
  • Experience in teaching epidemiology/statistics at the university level, with documented pedagogical skills.

Additional information
The position is a permanent position with a scope of 100 percent with starting date 2025-05-01 or as agreed. A probationary period may apply.
