Description of the Workplace
The Division of Molecular Medicine and Gene Therapy at the Department of Laboratory Medicine, Lund University, is a dynamic research environment. The division consists of several research groups focusing on various aspects of blood and lung cell function in health and disease.

Research Focus and Ongoing Projects:

Flygare Group: Studies red blood cell development and new mechanisms for treating anemia.

Miharada Group: Researches the dynamics of hematopoietic stem cells under regenerative stress.

Magnusson Group: Characterizes human lung epithelial stem/progenitor cells.

Larsson Group: Investigates mechanisms regulating the renewal and differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells with the goal of improving blood stem cell transplantation.

The division offers an interdisciplinary, international environment with researchers from diverse backgrounds, as well as modern laboratories and advanced equipment for molecular and cell biology research. Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced bioinformatics analyses on single-cell data, focusing on hematopoietic and erythroid cells
  • Develop and implement new analytical methods and algorithms to process and interpret complex biological datasets
  • Collaborate closely with other researchers in the team and contribute to scientific publications
  • Present research findings at internal meetings and external conference
  • Play a key role in maintaining and improving our bioinformatics infrastructure

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in biology, medicine, or a related field.
  • Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, with experience in Docker and Git.
  • Significant experience in bioinformatics analyses and tools.
  • Excellent ability to communicate research findings both in writing and verbally in English.

Meritorious Qualifications:

  • Experience with bioinformatics analyses of single-cell data from hematopoietic cells in general and erythroid cells in particular.
  • Experience working with large genomic datasets.
  • Knowledge of statistics and machine learning applied to biological data.
  • Experience working in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • Familiarity with public databases.
  • Data visualization skills using Matplotlib, Seaborn, Dash, or similar tools, along with the ability to develop custom visualizations for effective storytelling.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for projects.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to remote work when needed.
  • Creativity and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong commitment to research and motivation to contribute to the success of the team.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal skills and suitability for the position.

Additional Information
The position is a fixed-term employment (SÄVA) for 12 months, full-time (100%), starting March 1, 2025, or as agreed.
