A permanent position as Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, based at the Department of Clinical Sciences Lund, Division of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care, combined with employment as a specialist physician/senior consultant at Skåne University Hospital.
The duties primarily focus on research, as well as teaching and clinical activities, and involvement in management assignments at the Faculty of Medicine.
The successful candidate is expected to conduct independent research of a very high national and international standard in anesthesiology and intensive care.
Furthermore, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for education in Lund in the subject of anesthesiology and intensive care in the first and second cycle, above all for the Medical Programme. Education assignments may also arise in the Faculty’s other degree programmes.
The framework for the specialist/senior consultant position includes independent clinical duties at Skåne University Hospital (SUS), Intensive and Perioperative Care, Lund (IPV Lund). The position also includes being a member of the IPV Lund management group and participation in the group’s work.
The successful candidate is expected to be prepared to take on the assignment as head of the Division of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Department of Clinical Sciences, Lund. The Division covers the clinical specialisations of anesthesia and intensive care for adults and children, and in connection with thoracic surgery.
The successful candidate is also expected to carry out duties that are normally associated with a position as professor, such as administration duties and internal and external elected office roles. The professor is to represent the subject nationally and internationally, and be involved in external engagement. Other duties may also be included
A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise is qualified for employment as a professor (Chapter 4, Section 3 of the Higher Education Ordinance).
The successful candidate must have completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks. If the successful applicant is deemed to have special grounds for not having completed training in teaching and learning in higher education of at least five weeks at the time of taking up the position, they are to complete such training within two years of taking up the position (see the Lund University Appointment Rules).
The applicant must be a physician with specialist expertise in anesthesia and intensive care.
As the position as professor is combined with employment as a specialist physician, there is a requirement that the successful candidate on taking up the position possesses the necessary Swedish language skills for the medical profession (Language proficiency in Swedish of at least level C1 according to the European Framework of Reference for Languages).
For teaching staff at Lund University, the general qualification requirement concerns being suitable for and having the ability in general that is needed to satisfactorily carry out the duties of the appointment in question.
The applicant must demonstrate very good research expertise and teaching expertise relevant to the subject. In the assessment, particular emphasis will be assigned to research expertise.
The applicant’s research expertise is demonstrated through current, leading and independent research activities of a very high international standard. Emphasis will be assigned to national and international grants obtained in competition as the principal applicant. Furthermore, the applicant is also to demonstrate the ability to initiate and drive national and international collaborations. In addition, emphasis will be assigned to relevant and demonstrated ability in academic leadership and cooperation.
Emphasis will also be assigned to the ability and potential to develop activities, in both academic and clinical terms, as well as to collaboration and the ability to interact with society in external engagement.
Teaching expertise is to be demonstrated both in teaching and supervision in the first, second and third cycle. Emphasis will be assigned to the supervision of doctoral students.
A desired qualification is the ability to spread knowledge and contribute to the implementation of research results in clinical activities.
