The summer work position is financed by the Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg foundation through EDU-WACQT, an initiative for strengthening Swedish undergraduate education in Quantum Technology.

Work duties

The work duties will be to perform research within the field of quantum technology, with the focus on microwave photoemitters.

Our group studies experimentally solid-state devices where microwave photons and electrons in semiconductor devices interact coherently. This summer work project provides a unique opportunity to work with microwave circuits and quantum devices. You will be working together with the researchers in the group to build a microwave emitter where a small metallic island is heated and thus gives rise to emission of thermal photons. We will aim to measure the temperature of the island and connect it to the photoemission signal. Such a device finds use in quantum thermodynamics experiments and also as a useful diagnostic and calibration tool for developing and testing the quantum devices. The project offers you to see and get hands-on experience over a wide range of nanophysics area: from device fabrication in the cleanroom, to electrical measurements at low temperatures, and theory concepts to understand the device operation.

Qualifications

Required qualifications for the position are:

  • Ongoing Swedish university education in physics or another subject relevant for the project, at bachelor, master or equivalent level.
  • Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written, is a requirement.
