Description of the Workplace
In our research group, we combine bioinformatic analyses, primarily of various types of sequencing data, with experimental studies to investigate the effects of genetic variation and mutations on the transcriptome in breast cancer. Areas of particular interest include synonymous genetic variants, alternative splicing, and fusion genes. The research group currently consists of the group leader (associate professor), one PhD student, and three students conducting master's or bachelor's projects. The research is carried out at the Division of Oncology at Medicon Village in Lund.

We are now looking for a project assistant to join our research group. The position is a full-time, fixed-term employment for 12 months, with a starting date of June 16, 2025, or as agreed upon.

Work Tasks
The position includes bioinformatic analyses of RNA and whole-genome sequencing data using both published and in-house developed tools. This involves fundamental analyses such as alignment, prediction of fusion transcripts, annotation using relevant databases, as well as statistical analyses and interpretation of the results. The role also includes responsibility for handling data and analyses in accordance with principles for the protection of personal data and reproducible research. Additionally, the position involves both oral and written presentation of results, for example, in the form of seminars and manuscripts for publication in scientific journals.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A university degree in Bioinformatics (at the start of employment).
  • Strong proficiency and documented practical experience in programming with R, Python, and Bash.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both spoken and written.

Meritorious:

  • A university degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, or Biomedicine is highly advantageous.
  • Experience working with computing clusters, analyzing RNA and whole-genome sequencing data, variant calling, Git and version control, as well as prediction, annotation, and validation of fusion transcripts.
  • Documented experience in teaching and/or supervising within bioinformatics.

Other Information
The employment is a fixed-term position in accordance with Special Fixed-Term Employment (SÄVA) §5 p1 LAS and is full-time. The desired start date is June 16, 2025, or as agreed upon, with an end date of June 12, 2026.
