Description of the workplace

Transport and Roads is a division within the Department of Technology and Society. We have around 40 employees and our offices are located at LTH Campus. 

You will mainly be working in the research group Traffic Safety and Behaviour, but also in collaboration with other research groups at the department. The group performs research on a variety of subjects related to traffic safety, including policy development and implementation, evaluation of traffic safety measures, vulnerable road users and automated vehicles. The group uses data-driven methods for traffic data collection and traffic safety evaluation, such as video analysis, surrogate measures of safety and traffic simulation in virtual reality. We also work on studies based on interviews, questionnaires, observations and other methods among users and experts. The group is involved in many national and international activities related to research and education in the traffic safety domain.

Our research group currently has nine employees, including senior lecturers, postdocs, researchers, technical and administrative staff, and PhD students. We offer a supportive and collaborative environment with ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Work duties

You will be working with research in traffic safety with a basis in the research group Traffic Safety and Behaviour and in the intersection between traffic safety and mobility.

Description of the work duties:

  • You will have special responsibility for research related to policy development and implementation based on Vision Zero, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Stockholm Declaration and the Marrakech Declaration.
  • The position involves collaboration with the research group as well as with other research groups at the department to develop research and assist in seeking external funding.
  • You will also collaborate with research partners, stakeholders and financiers. 
  • Your position involves a smaller part of teaching in the first, second and third cycles of studies (max 20%).
  • You will have the opportunity to take teaching training.
  • You will also, to a lesser extent, supervise students in master's theses and PhD students.
  • Administration related to the work duties listed above.

The position involves travel within and outside Sweden.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • You must have obtained a PhD in traffic planning, traffic engineering, or a related field.
  • You should have excellent knowledge of both Swedish and English, in both spoken and written form.
  • You have knowledge and experience in mixed methods research combining qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • You have knowledge and experience from research with various groups of users (citizens and road users) as well as experts (practitioners, decision-makers, etc.) as research subjects and participants in the research (participatory design).
  • You have knowledge and experience in interdisciplinary research based on engineering science and combine this foundation with knowledge, theories, methods, and perspectives from other scientific disciplines relevant to research in traffic safety and mobility.
  • You have experience from research projects and qualified investigations within Swedish transport planning and mobility work, and regarding traffic safety work in a Swedish context based on Vision Zero and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. 
  • Regarding personal qualities, the position requires that you are able to work independently, possess strong teamwork skills, and have the ability to think strategically and systematically to manage and solve complex problems and challenges together with others (the research group, external collaborators, stakeholders, financiers, etc). It is also required that you establish and maintain professional contacts and relationships.
  • The position requires a driver's license (B).

Additional requirements: 

  • Experience in teaching and organizing courses for both students and professionals within the field of traffic planning, transport planning, or traffic safety.

Further information

The position is a fixed-term position for 2 years at 50 percent of full time, starting in April 2025, or by agreement.
