The Faculty of Social Sciences'  Methods Centre is looking for one research engineer.

Description of the workplace

At Lund Social Sciences Methods Centre, we work with the application and development of social science research methods. We encourage and grow through interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration. The Method Centre is organized as an umbrella organization and builds on four pillars: Qualitative methods; Experimental methods; Computational Social Science, as well as Skill School (https://www.sam.lu.se/en/research/lund-social-science-methods-centre)

Work duties and areas of responsibility

As a research engineer, you will provide support to the faculty’s researchers who have ongoing research projects that are based on quantitative methods. You will be located at the Faculty of Social Sciences’ library in Lund, which forms a hub for the support functions related to research and education.

An important focus of your work will be on an ongoing project titled "Divided Parliaments?" funded by Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. The overall purpose of the project is to examine how moralizing language used by members of parliament affects policy-making in parliaments. The project is led by Professor Hanna Bäck.

Your duties will, amongst other things, involve supporting ongoing research conducting analyses based on Large Language Models of large amounts of textual data. Central to your responsibilities is contributing to the combination of social science theory with quantitative data and analytical methods.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are the following:

  • Master’s level education in social sciences with a clear quantitative profile.
  • Advanced skills in data analytics and quantitative analysis tools in one or more of the following methods: AI-based methods (e.g., NLP), visualization methods, or machine learning.
  • Good ability to express yourself in English, both spoken and written.

You need to have excellent teamwork abilities and be goal and results-oriented. The work also requires that you have problem-solving analytical skills and can work independently, in a structured and thorough manner. Interest and ability to learn and apply new methods and ways of working is also a requirement. You must also have a high degree of integrity, motivation, and flexibility in your work.

Advantageous qualifications:

  • Advanced programming skills (e.g., Python).
  • Experience in research focusing on political psychology.
  • Experience using Large Language Models. 

Further information

The employment is a permanent position and is full time (100 %).  Starting date is as soon as possible according to agreement. Probitionary employment for 6 months can be applied.
