Description of the workplace
At the research group for epigenetics and diabetes, research is conducted with the aim of understanding the importance of epigenetic changes in the development of type 2 diabetes. The group is led by Professor Charlotte Ling - You can find more information about the research here. The researcher group is located at the unit for epigenetics and diabetes at Lund University Diabetes Centre (LUDC) in Malmö.

Project description
The postdoctoral researcher will work with projects involving epigenome-wide association studies in large clinical cohorts within the field of diabetes and child obesity. The goal of the project is to discover epigenetic biomarkers of clinical relevance for prediction of secondary outcomes in people with diabetes and in children at risk for obesity.

Work duties and responsibilities
At Lund University, a postdoctoral position should provide opportunities for scientific and pedagogical merit. Primarily, there is scope for merit in research, but also for some higher education pedagogy training. Teaching may also be part of the job duties.

As a postdoctoral researcher, your work duties and responsibilities include analyze clinical data from large cohorts, analyze DNA methylation data, perform statistical analyses, summarize results, write scientific articles/papers, supervise master and PhD students and collaborate with other researchers within different EU projects.

Qualifications

Requirements for the position are:

  • Doctoral degree or equivalent foreign degree in medicine, epigenetics, pediatrics or obesity. The doctoral degree must be completed no later than the time the employment decision is made.
  • Good ability to develop and conduct research of good quality.
  • Pedagogical ability.
  • Experience in genome-wide DNA methylation studies
  • Good knowledge in diabetes and its vascular complications
  • Good knowledge in statistics

Meritorious for the position are:

  • Priority will be given to applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the application deadline.
  • Published papers on genome-wide epigenetic studies in humans
  • Experience in calculating trajectories based on clinical data
  • Clinical experience

The assessment of applicants will be based primarily on their scientific merit and potential as researchers. Particular emphasis will be placed on scientific ability within the subject area.

Terms of employment
The position is a fixed-term position for two/three years, 100% with a start date of 2025-07-01 or as agreed. Employment at Lund University is conducted in Sweden, so you are expected to be able to perform your work on site in Malmö.

The position is limited in time to at least two years, maximum three years, according to the collective agreement on fixed-term employment as a postdoctoral researcher (Arbetsgivarverket). A postdoctoral position is intended as an initial step in your career and as an opportunity to further deepen and broaden your research skills.
